This past weekend this girls and I went to Limerick, which is about a 2 hour drive outside the city. It was nice to see part of the countryside and some sheep, ha!
Once we got there we checked into our hostel, which was more like a hotel it was nice, and then got a van taxi and we asked him where to eat and stuff. So he drove around a bit and showed us where to eat and some sights we should see.
We tried to go see King Johns castle but it was closed so we just walked around it, then walked by St. Mary's Cathedral. That was beautiful. One thing that I love about here is that some things can be so old! There were headstones that were from the 1800s in the church's lot. Katie found a Hayes one, so I took a picture next to it, ha didn't know if I should have smiled or not so I did. But this grave had like 6 people on it, all Hayes' and all different ages, they died in a drowning!
We then walked to the place the cab driver told us to eat, it was kind of empty when we got there but a board said a piano man was going to show up. So we ate, had a few drinks, and the USA game came on so the pub started to fill up. Everyone kept looking over at us when something would happen in the match. Unfortunately if you don't already know we lost and are out of the World Cup. After that we just hung out in that pub and I met a very cute boy! ha His name was Shane, he is from Limerick and him and I talked all night, his friends were going to a club and he invited me so my friends and I went to this club. It was fun but super loud, our ears were ringing all night and the next day.
The next day we woke up early despite being out late and went to King Johns castle. It was full of low budget mannequins and weird acting films, but I loved it! The castle was used as a military base. King John never visited the castle. After all the films and history of it we were allowed to walk around the inside courtyard and the towers. I was in heaven, it was SO cool.
After that we headed back into town and waited for the bus to take us back to Dublin. We all slept the whole way home, we were pooped!
We decided before even leaving Dublin that when we got back we would take the train to Howth, a coastal city just north of the city centre.
This place was beautiful, we are going to go back on Sunday. Saw a jellyfish for the first time, haha, I was excited! We also saw SEALS!!! They were huge!!! So we hung out for a bit just taking in the sights, then we walked around trying to find a good place to eat. We ate at The Bloody Stream, which was named after a battle against the Normans. They fought near a stream and after the battle the stream was nicknamed the Bloody Stream. This stream is underneath the restaurant! I liked it, had a good feel to it.
Except I was eating a smoked salmon sandwich, which was delicious, but I had chips (french fries) with it, and I was just sitting there minding my own business and a man walks up and looks at me asking 'can, can I have a chip' and before I could respond he reachs down and grabs a fry! I just sat there looking around saying did that just happen!!! Haha he was walking to the bathroom so when he came back out he apologized saying that it was just an impulse and didn't mean to. He was embarrassed, haha it was pretty funny though!
Then we went home and just hung out that night.
This week is full of work and then Rob, one of my friends that graduated from the Air Force Academy a few years ago is stationed in England is coming across the pond to visit! He gets in Sat morning and leaves Mon afternoon. His friend that he is bringing REALLY wants to go to the Guinness Storehouse so I said I'd go again. So thats on the schedule, and I told him I'd take him to Howth, that way he can see the quiet part of Ireland. I'm excited to see another familiar face!
I'll post pictures later when I get home from work, the internet at home gets slow at night since everyone is on the network so I'm posting this at work! Ha because I finished the work they gave us for the week and they don't have anymore...So stay tuned for some sweet awesome pictures!!!
:)
Ha this is a sign that was up at Howth! Made us all laugh!
